Rescuing a kitten of an endangered species is important not just for the individual cat but for the entire species.

Of course, the family who rescued this tiny stray cat did not know what they were rescuing at the time. All they saw was an itty bitty kitten wandering alone, without a momma and without help, and decided that they had to intervene before something bad happened to it. Good people. And they should be given credit for what they did. The fact that they rescued a wild cat does not make what they did bad, but rather very good. It didn't make sense for the momma to not be around her newborn, so there had to have been a reason she was gone, a reason the kitten was unprotected. And considering the fact that the baby was barely a couple hours old, wandering around, protection is precisely what he needed.

This "normal" rescued kitten turned out to be a very rare fishing cat. And fishing cats are considered in danger of extinction. The family saving this cat ended up being good not just for this single kitte, whose chances of survival alone would have been marginal, but for the survival of the whole species.

If this prank had been pulled on us, we would have lost our minds.

Listen, it's funny, okay? We can admit that. We can read through this story and say that is an objectively successful, harmless and funny prank. On most people. For us, it would not have been harmless. The thought of a cat being stuck in the ceiling in our workplace, right above us, where we cannot reach and help the kitty out… might have made us cry. You laugh, but you know where we work, right? As we write this, we are sitting in a room full of people who are every so slightly obsessed with cats, and this would have been bad for our mental health.

Sigh. It probably is unique to our office though. Just the thought of a cat in distress would have had our entire office hopping up our of our chairs and trying to go help. But for the of humanity, people who are less obsessed with cats than we are, this probably does count as a harmless prank. We don't know what took over this employee on this day that made him decide to do this, but we can appreciate the intent.

This man has decided that work it boring, and it is time for some fun. Except, instead of what people normally do in offices, which is bring snacks or more coffee, this man decided to find an 8-hour video of a cat meowing on YouTube, turn it on, and tuck the speaker up into a ceiling tile. He turned the volume as low as it could go, so that you could barely hear the meows through the ceiling, precisely placing the speaker so that people could hear the cat but not be able to pinpoint where the kitty is.

Honestly, the way that this situation unfolded is actually one of our favorites. It's funny now, but it would have been absolutely devastating had the people in the office heard the sounds of this distressed meowing kitty and not done anything. If they ignored it, this prank would have been the worst. But the fact that they responded, the fact that they made such a ruckus, that they got people to come and try to save the cat… we think that points at the fact that the people in this office are kind of pawsome.

Either way, this is one of those days and things that happened in the office that would never be forgotten. Months would pass, even years, new employees will come in, and this story will still be one that people talk about. It will become the story of this office. The day during which there was a cat in the ceiling but also wasn't. Heck, all the people who were there when the incident happened could be gone, but the incident itself will still be remembered.

Also, we definitely would have been one of those people in the office who would continue hearing the cat even after the video was over and the whole thing was behind everyone. We would have been one of the traumatized ones who came up with all the theories. Bad for our mental health. But hilarious.

Everyone knows that cats are criminals. That includes cats.

As first-time cat owners, we were shocked by this. We were shocked by the sheer quantity of crime in our houses after the adoption. We knew that cats were mischievous. We've consumed media before. We have seen funny cat memes about all the relatable moments that cat owners go through. We thought that we knew what we were getting into. But what we didn't know was quite how much of it there is going to be, how many of our favorite breakable things were going to end up on the floor, how many of our glasses our cats would drink from and how much food they would sneak off our plates.

We understand those relatable cat memes on a whole different level now. We really get them. And we're not just talking about the funny parts of those funny cat memes. We're talking about the feelings behind those memes. Yes, we may be laughing about how sad it is when our favorite vase ends up on the floor, but we also feel the love that is behind that meme. We feel understanding. They're criminals, yes, but they are our criminals, and that is all that matters.

Kittens are vicious floof-machines that are guaranteed to turn unbitten ankles into bitten ankles, but that's why we love them.

With a kitten, your sleep schedule may become irregular, but the bags under your eyes are justified by the bubbles of love that swell in your chest every time your faithful feline utters the sweetest of mews. As if they know the breaking point of their human companions, kittens will push a cat lover to their absolute limit, testing their patience with playful attacks, cute scampers, and strange, alien-like cat behavior at 2 AM. It's at every cat lover's wits' end, when they wonder why they got a kitten in the first place, that kitties will turn on their ultimate secret weapon: Cuteness

Wielding their shiny eyes, pouty lower lip, and the most expressive lick of their tiny paw, kittens will wait until their humans are most vulnerable to attack them with adorableness. We have no defenses for this, and despite hundreds of years of cat/human companionship and domestication, it's the cats who ultimately prey on our weakness for cuties. Who can say no to a kitten when they look at you like this?

Via u/Rrraum

How can we deny the little beasts every aching whim of desire? Exactly, there's no saying no to this face. If they want to play with the laser as our eyes are fluttering closed for bed, so be it. If that cat wants to tear apart the couch with their little mean beans, go ahead. And if the kitten decides they want to sleep in the crook of their human's neck all night, purring softly in their ear and making them fall in love all over again, I guess that's just how it's going to be. Kittens rule this household, and it's not because of their totalitarianism; it's the way they meownipulate us into underestimating their fluffy faces and whimsical tails. Beyond the whiskered cuteness and the cuddly demeanor, there's a kitten who yearns for the love and adoration of humans, becoming as irrefutably and unignorably cute when we least expect it.

Cats are there for us when we need them most, cozying up on the couch when it's cold and blizzarding, and stalking us to the bathroom in the middle of the night (as is their feline duty). So even though kittens are annoying when they're little and full of rambunctious energy, it's that magnetic meow and that cute little purrsonality that draws us to bond with the goblin, making this puffball feline one of the most beloved family members in the house.

And that's worth a few scratches on the forearm to get there.

What's a cat person supposed to do when they miss their cat while at work? Look at cat memes, of course!

Wouldn't it be nice if we could send memes to our cats and be like, "omg that is so you, bestie!" And then they'd let you hold their toes beans while you two laugh hissterically together? That's gotta be happening in some dimension. A gal can dream. Until then, we're just going to have to settle with sending silly cat memes to our coworkers.

The midday slump is a real thing. Why does that happen? Because our bodies were meant to lounge by a creek while eating berries and petting a furry friend. We could still do that in our beds with our cats, but we also live in a capitalist society, so… yeah. It's so hard when you start to miss your cat in the middle of the workday. You're supposed to concentrate on that expense report or those quarterly targets, bla bla bla. Sorry, all I'm hearing in my head right now are the sweet sweet meows of my kitty who is waiting for me at home yet. Is it clockin' out time yet, or what?

Some lucky offices allow you to bring your pets to work. Do I know this office? No, I've only heard that about the Chewy offices. But I guess we can't all work there. So, cat memes will have to do.

Stop hissing at each other, and get along! It's time to spend time with your best feline friend and LOL at cat memes together.

When it comes to friendships, it's important to have them in all shapes and colors. You have your oldest friends, your closest friends, your bestest friends, your family friends, and your new friends. But let us never forget the most important friendship of all, your fur friends! There is no better friendship than the one you have with a little furry buddy. In this case, we're talking about feline friends. If you're a cat parent, then your cat is your number in life. Purriodt.

If it wasn't for your sweet fur baby, how could you survive the everyday horrors of life? What do you mean I have to wake up every single day and go to work, and then come home to eat and sleep and do it all over again for the rest of my life? The existential dread is starting to pull me under the ground!… But oh, wait, what is this?

Cat.

Well, and also memes. You know we love memes. It goes animals and then memes. Combine the two and yep, we're best friends now. If you love animal memes and cats just as much as we do, then you have come to the right place. And guess what? We're your bestie now. Hi bestie! Let's LOL.

They wished for a cat and one showed up by morning.

A friendly cat showed up outside a workplace one morning and immediately made it clear she wanted help. Hungry, she walked right up to people with no fear at all. A call was made and within hours she was brought home, fed, and warmed up. The second she found a lap, she curled up like she'd been waiting for it.

Her new pawrents weren't actively looking for another cat, but the timing lined up in a strange way. The idea had just crossed their minds the night before. By the next day, she was asleep in their arms, purring nonstop. She's a velcro kitty who wants to be touching someone at all times, kneading and headbutting like she's making up for lost time. Even their senior cat Loki seems calmer with her around, and the house feels fuller already.

They've posted everywhere trying to find an owner, and the vet confirmed she isn't chipped. A checkup is scheduled to make sure she's healthy. If someone claims her, they'll handle it the right way. If no one does, she already has a place to stay.

For now she's safe, warm, and fed, sleeping with a full belly and zero worries. She walked in unexpectedly and fit right in.

Hungry? Grab a cat meme.

Food makes the world go round. We all need it to survive, but it's more than that. It's an emotional process of memories, tastes, and a sign of love for many. It's more than just a need to survive. Cats are often compared to loaves of bread when they sit in a specific shape, paws tucked under them, and rounded back like a loaf of bread. Bread baking dates back over 30,000 years. It started with unleavened flatbread made by hunter-gatherers to a staple food revolutionized by Egyptian fermentation and modern industrialization. Ovens were invented in ancient Greece.

Whether your cat loaves or not isn't the point. And whether you're a bread fanatic or gluten-free doesn't matter either. The point is that you appreciate a good cat meme when you see one. If you scroll below, you'll find a list of hilarious, wholesome, and adorable cat memes that are just waiting to be gobbled up, just waiting to be looked at and laughed at. Even if you're on a diet and you're not eating bread right now, you can still indulge in the cat memes. The internet thrives on cat memes, as well as food. Have you noticed how popular cooking videos have become? Or ASMR mukbang videos, people make all kinds of crazy money just by filming themselves eating. It's a strange world we live in, and no one knows where the future is headed. But cat memes will always be there to cheer up anyone in need of a hug.

Everyone has a story, even animals.

It can be heart-wrenching to see an animal in pain or in need. They can't help it, and it can feel like you're responsible for them. The cat in the story below has not had an easy life. This couple found the cat living in a cardboard box in their parking lot. They saw a little bowl of food and water, so someone has been caring for the cat, but probably not enough. They decide to take the cat to the vet, and it's there when they see how the cat has been treated. The poor kitty has an injury on her stomach, revealing that she was probably victim to a hit and run. The couple cries over the cat, and empathizes with her life. They try to do everything in their power to help her, and they start by taking her to their warm home.

When you find out someone's past, it can really change how you perceive them. Knowing they went through some sort of great struggle, pain, or trauma can make them seem more human in your eyes, make them seem stronger. Going through these things and coming out the other end seemingly okay is not a given. So many people have horrible experiences, but don't change or grow from them. Often times, it makes things worse, and someone can become resentful or mean over bad experiences. But if you're able to see past it, then all the better. This story is one of wholesome and pawsitive outcomes, despite life working against them.

It is not often that cat adoptions can lead to the replacement of a unwanted hooman, but in this story one woman gets the courage to break up with her unempathetic partner thanks to the tiny kitten she decided to adopt against his wishes.

The world is a tough place, and navigating our way through life in it can be even tougher. But there is only one thing that truly matters, and that is whether or not you live your life your way, making your decisions and standing by them so long as they do you well. And that is the lesson that one single mother learned after she fell in love with a kitten and wanted to bring it home.

Her boyfriend at the time seemed to think that having said kitten would restrict his freedom, as though cats require their second favorite hooman to be anywhere near them. And it was this entitled and egoistic behavior which caused this woman to finally leave this man who was not worthy of her and live the life she deserves. A life that includes the cutest of kittens who now lights up each and every day of her life.

Accountability has left the building. Luckily, the cat didn't.

Look, we're not claiming to be relationship advisers. We're mere cat lovers with a platform. But we're human, we know what it is to be in a relationship, and what it is to raise a cat together (because, of course, our partners have to be cat people too). First of all, when you raise a cat, together with someone or alone, it means you have full responsibility for this creature that entered your life. Their safety is in your hands, depends on your deeds, and it's your job to make sure what you do is aimed towards your cat's wellbeing. This memo seems to have missed the husband in this case, since he won't admit, under any circumstances, that his actions might have had grave consequences.

These consequences in question are leaving a cat outside in freezing temperatures. And not just any cat - his own cat. The one whose safety is in his hands. But will he be shocked by the accidental near-consequences for his own actions? Nope. He will go back home and blame his wife for not noticing his misdeeds sooner, obviously. We don't get it - as cat pawrents ourselves, the mere thought of our cat freezing outside because we accidentally left the door open leaves us in horror.

Besides the thoughts about the cat, we also feel for the wife who had to suffer a husband blaming her for it. While she's stuck outside the apartment in the cold. Without even mentioning the childish behavior he continued on with, we would be horrified. We were really not kidding when we said that the person we're in a relationship with must be a cat person too - it means feeling responsible for the cat as we do. If that can't happen - the relationship can't happen. So no, we're not relationship advisers, but this is what we would do.

Senior feral cats are a rare sight and must be treated like a cherished ancient treasure.

Like the great white whale or the Loch Ness monster, senior feral sightings are few and far between. Largely because, sadly, most outdoor cats don't make it to their senior years; it's a tough, harsh world out there for these little feline survivors! Cat lovers all know the rules. When you see a feral feline, a stray, or any cat on the street, it must be met with the honorary pspsps of recognition and love. If a cat lover ever crosses the path of a senior feral feline, they must do what must be done.

Respect your elders… Especially in the cat colony.

Matriarchs and patriarchs of survival, elder cats in the wild have earned their tabby stripes over the years, dodging predators, passing cars, and the nagging capture of devoted human fans. Although they enjoy the company of their human counterparts, oftentimes, feral cats have spent so long outdoors and on their own that they've forgotten how to trust the bipedal giants of the world.

And yet, even if these skittish beauties make it to their ancient, wise years, all it takes is one nasty snowstorm to threaten their entire world. Although cats are natural-born survivors, we are all susceptible to the biting cold, the artic winds, and the polar blasts from the winter climate's mood swings. Except cats don't have the luxury of reading the weather forecast every morning, so it's up to us humans to look out for our nifty, feline neighbors.

There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home.

As cat pawrents, we don't need meowgical ruby slippers to transport us back home… because we never left! In order to get us out of the house and away from our fluffy felines, you have to schedule with us at least one week in advance, and we have to be home by 9 PM. Otherwise, we turn into a pumpkin. A grumpy, angry pumpkin that is no fun to be with at all.

Seriously, though, who needs people when you have a family of felines waiting for you at home? They are always excited to see us, are the best cuddlers, and oftentimes give us free massages without us ever having to ask. The only things we have to deal with in return are being screamed at for around 30 minutes before dinnertime and cat hair literally everywhere. But other than that, it's purrfect!

There are some people (extraverts) who enjoy being in the presence of others. We consider ourselves catroverts, because more than anything, we enjoy being in the company of cats. Our furvorite place is at home, in our pajamas, with a blanket and three cats on or around us. No fancy dinner or night out with friends will ever top that.

We used to be ashamed of this when we were younger, always feeling pressured to leave the house and "be social". But as we've aged, we understood that there's nothing wrong with enjoying your alone time with your fur babies, and we're certainly not afraid to cancel plans because of our cats.

If you're an owner of some cute cats at home, you know exactly what we're talking about. We hope your snuggled up next to your kitties as you're reading this, so you can show them all the hissterical memes that remind you them. Don't change for anyone, unless it's for your cats. They're the only ones that deserve it!

There is nothing worse than the people you entrust with your cat breaking that trust.

Look, we know who our cats are. We know that it is difficult to find cat sitters who can deal with all of our cats' needs. And we've heard the horror stories. We know how important it is to make the right choice when it comes to the people who will be taking care of our cats in our absence. We've heard of cat sitters losing cats, letting them out of the house even though they were told not to. We've heard of cat sitters throwing parties in the houses they're cat sitting in, without any regard to the house or the cat. We've even heard of cat sitters not wanting to give the cats back, making up all kinds of excuses and reasons for why they can't or shouldn't.

Making the choice is not easy, but sometimes, it is necessary. And we make it. And we hope that the people we chose to put our trust in were the right people. We always make the best choice that we can during these circumstances. So, having that trust broken, having the people who chose to take care of our cat mistreat them… that is infuriating.

If cuteness were an Olympic event, cats would take gold

If the Cuteness Olympics were real, cats would win gold every year and act like it wasn't a big deal. No training montage, no warmup. They'd just show up, blink slowly at the judges, and the scorecards would already be filled out.

They'd dominate every event without trying. The synchronized loaf would earn perfect scores for form and tuck. The high jump would include a dramatic twist followed by a flawless landing and immediate disinterest. Freestyle sleeping would break records with upside-down naps and impossible positions that somehow look comfortable.

The judges wouldn't stand a chance. One toe bean stretch and the arena loses composure. A surprise blep ends the competition early. When a cat curls into a tiny circle and starts purring, it's basically the closing ceremony.

The funniest part is the feline athletes wouldn't care. They wouldn't celebrate or acknowledge the win. They'd wander off mid-applause to chase a dust bunny or demand snacks. The medals would sit untouched while they focused on more important things, like staring at a wall for reasons no one understands.

Every year the results would be the same. Cats sweep the podium, hoomans cheer, and nobody questions it. Some champions train for years. Cats are just born ready.

How will you know which cat is the "right" one? We have one, simple secret to tell you: they're all the right one.

"You will never regret being loved by a cat".

We've said this time and time again that adopting a cat is a big deal, and we won't stop staying it until everyone understands that it's a 15+ year commitment. We would rather you be overprepurred than underprepurred, if you get what we're saying. It's natural to have doubts before adopting your first cat. Like we said, it's a lot to prepurr for! What food is best for them? Where should you put the litter box? Do you need two litter boxes, just in case? Will they be okay at home alone while you're at work? Are they going to destroy your furniture? These are just a few of the many questions potential pawrents ask themselves before signing those adoption papers. Many people stop before ever answering them, leaving their lives unfurtunately feline-free.

The question people probably ask the most is: "How do I know I'm picking the right cat?" Sure, each cat has their own purrsonality, habits, wants, and needs. Some cats are naturally more active, some purrfectly fine with cuddling all day, and others need their purrsonal space. But all cats want to be loved, even if it's only in their own way. All cats want to love as well, some just take a little longer than others to warm up first.

If you're on the fence about adopting, maybe these joy-filled adoption stories of pawrents picking their first cat will help ease your worry. Each one is truly unique, but all of them share the same sentiment: no matter which cat you pick (not even taking into account that the cat might even pick you), you two will live a happy life together. A cat's love can't be replaced by anything else, and once you hold them in your arms and feel them purring, you'll understand purrfectly.

No cat deserves to be returned to the shelter once, let alone twice.

That is especially true for unique kittens. There is nearly a fight over kittens in shelters. Everyone wants to adopt a kitten, and if it's a unique kitten of a unique breed who has a unique look, there is definitely a waiting list. And the thought that somehow, despite the people who are sure lined up to try to adopt this Serval cat, the fact that not one but two of them returned her to the shelter is wild to us.

But of course, people don't think before they adopt cats of a special breed. They see a cute cat, and they want it. And in some ways, we get it. We see a cute cat, and we want it too. But if it's a kitty in a shelter, rather than one that we rescue off the streets, we do think that it is only sensible to look up what characteristics the breed in question has. The people who returned this Serval cat for being too energetic and playful should have known that Serval cats, in their core, are energetic and playful. It's simply who they are, and adopters need to be informed of that.

Scaredy cats are much less fearful when survival is on the line.

Bernadette, the tuxedo cat, was once scared of the people who roamed the apartment complex, but this frightful kitty learned that not all hoomans drive spooky, loud dump trucks that upend your dumpster home: Some humans have chicken tenders, infinite affection, and a cozy, warm house to live in.

All it takes is one purrticularly friendly human to change the mind of a stubbornly independent stray cat, but a handful of tuna can go a long way, too.
